Editorial Standards — How Canggu Surfing Researches & Verifies

Our Editorial Standards & Commitment to Trust

At Canggu Surfing, our currency is trust. As the premier luxury surf concierge in Indonesia, we understand that our clients rely on our expertise not just for convenience, but for their safety, satisfaction, and the overall success of their journey. Our editorial content—from surf break guides and villa reviews to cultural insights—is created and maintained with a rigorous commitment to accuracy, impartiality, and first-hand experience. This page outlines the principles that govern our content creation and verification process.

Core Principles

  • Expertise First: All content is written or rigorously reviewed by genuine subject-matter experts. Our surf guides are authored by our team of ISA-certified instructors. Accommodation reviews are conducted by professionals with backgrounds in luxury hospitality. Cultural content is vetted by local Balinese advisors.
  • First-Hand Research: We do not rely on third-party reviews or hearsay. Our recommendations are the result of direct, in-person experience. Our team surfs the breaks, sleeps in the villas, and dines at the restaurants we feature.
  • Unwavering Accuracy: We are meticulous about fact-checking. All factual claims, such as swell data, tide times, and operational hours, are cross-referenced with official sources like Indonesia’s BMKG (Badan Meteorologi, Klimatologi, dan Geofisika) and the relevant business entities.
  • Complete Independence: Our reviews and recommendations are not for sale. We do not accept payment, gifts, or incentives in exchange for positive coverage. Our relationship with partners is based on their quality, not their marketing budget. This allows us to provide unbiased advice focused solely on the best interests of our clients.

Our Content Workflow

To ensure the highest quality, every piece of content we publish follows a multi-stage process:

  1. Assignment & Research: An article is assigned to a writer with demonstrated expertise in the topic. For a guide to surfing at Batu Bolong, this would be one of our senior surf guides. The assignment includes a mandate for on-site, first-hand research.
  2. Writing & Sourcing: The expert drafts the content, citing specific, verifiable details. All sources for technical data (e.g., historical swell patterns, local regulations) are documented internally.
  3. Expert Review & Fact-Checking: The draft is reviewed by at least one other expert on our team. A dedicated fact-checker verifies all names, dates, statistics, and technical details against primary sources. For example, we confirm a partner hotel’s C-H-S-E (Cleanliness, Health, Safety, and Environment) certification directly with the issuing body.
  4. Editing & Publication: The content is edited for clarity, style, and tone by our editorial lead before being published.
  5. Regular Updates: The world of travel is dynamic. We conduct a full review and update of all our core content on a semi-annual basis. Information subject to frequent change, such as restaurant opening hours or flight schedules with partners like Garuda Indonesia, is reviewed quarterly. We also actively monitor user feedback and official announcements for any necessary immediate corrections.

Conflict of Interest Policy

Canggu Surfing and its parent, Juara Holding Group, maintain a strict separation between our concierge services and our editorial content. While we have commercial partnerships with villas, transport providers, and other services, these partners do not influence our editorial coverage. Our recommendations are based on the rigorous evaluation criteria outlined in Our Methodology. If a partner’s service quality declines, we will update our content to reflect that, regardless of our commercial relationship. Our primary duty is to our client, the traveler.

The Rigor of Our Verification Process

The scent of frangipani blossoms mingling with the salty ocean air is the first sensory cue that a luxury surf journey in Canggu has truly begun, but behind that effortless experience lies an unwavering commitment to verification. The dynamic nature of surf conditions and the evolving landscape of luxury hospitality demand constant vigilance. For our surf break guides, information is a living entity. Our ISA-certified instructors conduct daily reconnaissance missions to key spots like Echo Beach and Berawa, assessing swell height, wind direction, tide movements, and crowd levels. These real-time observations are cross-referenced with satellite data and local meteorological reports, ensuring our surf forecasts—updated four times daily, beginning at 5 AM local time—are as precise as possible, guiding
